EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION

EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION

Our Regional Training & Resources Centre (RTRC) is designed to provide training and certification in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE).  This two-year programme instructs trainees about the psychological and cognitive needs of young children between the ages of 3 to 5 years and blends theoretical classroom courses with practical hands-on experience at an assigned preschool.

The programme is accredited by the Accreditation Council of Trinidad & Tobago (ACTT) and carries matriculation status for entry to the UWI Bachelor of Education Degree.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

​

  • Three (3) CAPE, CXC, or O’ Level subjects (including English and Mathematics).

  • Successful completion of an Aptitude Test and interview.

  • Recommendation from a past teacher, minister of religion or community leader.

YEAR 1

 

Full-time, in-classroom study that includes Orientation and

Personal Development.

  • Social & Environmental Studies

  • Curriculum Materials

YEAR 2

​

One (1) year teaching internship at an assigned SERVOL Preschool under the supervision of trained personnel.

 

CERTIFICATION:

 

A certificate in E.C.C.E. from the Ministry of Education/Servol is awarded at the end of two years to those who have successfully completed the programme and have passed the written and practical examinations.
